For Students: Learning to Design

Often times,  when students hear the word "design," they usually gravitate towards something "we haven't seen before" or "it must be different to be different." In actuality however, most video games and films are rooted in real-world history, culture and events.

It is important to first understand how the real-world functions before diving into the fantastic.

This assignment below is called The Historic Room. Students must gather their thoughts on paper, carry out research and put together references. Then, each room is mocked up in rough 3D and set-dressed. Finally, line-drawing is applied while adding details.

It may look simple and perhaps even a bit boring, but completing this assignment leads students to appreciate a whole new side of design.
